Matt has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Theater from William Jewell College and MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts & Media from Columbia College Chicago. He received the Screenwriters Corner Award for his original multimedia play, Knocking, and studied traditional Balinese dance and mask making while teaching theater and dance in Bali, Indonesia, with the Foundation for Advancement of Intercultural Resources.  After college, Matt worked in production including print ad campaigns for Levi’s and feature-length films with National Geographic.

While at Columbia, Matt was an Assistant Instructor of digital video editing, performance media and documentary film. He also co-founded and served as Artistic Director, and choreographer, for Core Project Chicago, a modern dance collective cultivating interdisciplinary arts through collaborations with local and national artists.  Matt has performed with noted dance troupes including Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance company in Chapel/Chapter at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.

Matt’s professional background includes the creation of dynamic brand experiences for premium spirits and wine company, Pernod Ricard, as well as  L'Oréal Paris and Mars Inc. as Event Supervisor with Legacy Marketing Partners. Matt also worked as Assistant Producer and editor of Water Pressures, a documentary project about the global water crisis, filmed in the Thar Desert in Rajasthan, India.    

Matt is currently the Creative Director of World Bicycle Relief, a global non-profit organization mobilizing people in developing countries with The Power of Bicycles.

For eight years at World Bicycle Relief, Matt has overseen the organization’s creative and marketing initiatives including content creation, email communications, social media messaging, marketing partnerships, public relations and event promotion. He directed multiple international website builds, has led filming and media trips in the field and overseen the production of more than 80 short films, sharing the stories of students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs in Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Matt’s campaigns, videos and storytelling with World Bicycle Relief have been featured in Fast Company, Global Citizen, The Guardian, GOOD, Here And Now, Social Impact Awards, The New York Times, Teen Vogue and Upworthy. His creative direction has supported partner campaigns with CitizenM Hotels, Dropbox, Global Cycling Network, Movado Watches, Red-Bull Media, Outside TV and The World Economic Forum.
